Summer 2008

The seventh grade must read Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt.  There are focus questions that go with the reading and that will help the students identify the historical significance of the book.  The questions are as follows.  

Directions:  As you read Across Five Aprils, focus on the following questions or statements to help you understand what you are reading.  Take notes for each of the following as you read the book.  I hope everyone has a great summer and I will see you in September!!  


1.Identify the main character of the book and his family members.

2.Identify any friends of the main character.

3.Identify the setting of the book.

4.What is the war that is taking place in the book?

5.In Chapter 1, determine the reasons that caused the war.

6.In Chapter 2, two characters had an argument about which side is at fault for the war.  Identify the two groups in the war, and identify the argument each one had.

7.Identify the battles that are discussed in the book.

8.Identify the President of the United States during this war.

9.Discuss how  people in the town and how families were split in their feelings about the war.

10.Describe the end of the war in the book.  What happened?  What areas were destroyed?  Was there a peace treaty signed?  Where was it signed?


Also, the seventh grade will need the following supplies for Social Studies.  

One 1 or 2 inch binder.  
One three subject notebook.  
Dividers.  
Plastic paper protectors.  
Pens and Pencils.
